Aims and objectives: Early bilingual language assessment often focuses on lexical development. However, lexical tasks per se are not sufficiently informative of the child’s bilingual language development. Thus, other developmental communicative-language domains should be analysed within plurilingual language assessment.

1 Introduction The emergence of expressive language abilities shows substantial variability in both its timing and the learning strategies employed by children across different languages (Frank et al. 2017). While most children follow a typical trajectory of language acquisition, some experience delays in the development of expressive language abilities (e.g., Sansavini et al. 2021).

Resumen We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis on the association between nonword repetition (NWR) and language exposure in bilingual children and explored whether the association is influenced by other variables. We performed a blind literature review on ERIC and Google Scholar, a random-effects model meta-analysis and subgroup analyses to test potential moderators. Out of 822 screened articles, we identified 24 works including 1399 children.
