Energy-intensive industries such as steel and cement continue to drive inelastic demand, with global CO2 emissions remaining at around 4 billion tons annually and rising. (1) To address climate change, global warming must be kept well below 2 °C, leaving a limited CO2 budget and making the reduction of net CO2 emissions urgent. (2) In this regard, converting CO2 into value-added chemicals using clean energy represents a decisive decarbonization strategy.
