Why I refuse to hide my emotions in a world afraid of love
I’m only sharing this story today to illustrate something about myself and my perspective on love: being expressive with it. I am not discussing only romantic love here. I’m talking about the affection we have for so many individuals around us, including our parents, siblings, friends, teachers, coworkers, neighbors, pets, and even strangers. The gun violence epidemic is ubiquitous. Ten months ago, there was an active shooter in the Philadelphia hospital where I am completing my internal medicine residency training.
Annals of Internal Medicine
Every night, you will find admitting residents and float teams tucked away in the resident lounge at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. These doctors are responsible for admissions, rapid response calls, and codes in the hospital at night. All of the internal medicine residents assigned to this shift work together in this one room. The atmosphere is exhausting and busy, yet there is a real spirit of friendship and mutual trust.
