City Council eyes $125,000 to help families separated by ICE

While President Donald Trump on Wednesday signed a $70 billion bill to continue funding his immigration crackdown, members of Rochester City Council are looking to bolster support services for families separated by that enforcement. This month, Council will vote on contracting with Refugees Helping Refugees to support the organization’s work providing wrap-around services to families separated or facing detention or deportation.

Police, family respond to combative arrest caught on video

Rochester police are reviewing a combative arrest that occurred Monday evening on Avenue B and was captured in videos widely circulating on social media. The videos show the man, identified by police as Kareem Franklin, 23, in a physical struggle with two officers beside the open door of a vehicle before being taken to the ground. Two other officers later join in to pin Franklin’s legs and midsection.

Daniel's Law pilot to add 'peer navigators' to Rochester's Person in Crisis team

The city of Rochester's Person in Crisis Team is expanding with seven new “peer navigators,” which are being added using funding from the state. The PIC team sends crisis counselors to respond to incidents involving mental health substance use issues. The peer navigators its adding using $2 million in state money are meant to be people with lived experience who can help better serve people on the street.
