1. Introduction Gastric cancer (GC) is a malignancy of high aggressiveness that poses as the fourth leading cause of cancer-related decimations worldwide [1,2]. The incidence of GC has a huge geographical variability with some high incidences in Central and South America, Eastern Europe, East Asia and low incidences in Australia, Southern Asia, North and East Africa, and North America [3,4].
