The broad application of γδ T cells for adoptive cell immunotherapy has been hindered by their low physiological frequency in the periphery, and the difficulty of ex vivo expansion. Considerable efforts are currently devoted to developing suitable methods for obtaining clinical numbers of γδ T cells [ 45 ]. The expansion strategy of γδ T cells can be bimodal: ex vivo and in vivo.
