By John Stone, Glenwood MN Nothing like a little snow to get people thinking about other seasonal changes like the freezing of area lakes and ice fishing. It always seemed to be the change took place around Thanksgiving. A thin coating of lakes would start to appear the week of Thanksgiving and if it was cold enough some of the smaller ice houses would start to appear the Friday and Saturday afterwards.

By John Stone, Glenwood MN Over the past few years, it has been interesting to see Alexandria expand its sidewalks. The sidewalks from downtown out to Viking Plaza and then further south were nice links. And now I see that sidewalks have been included in the rebuild of Nokomis Street. I know sidewalks are not always liked by some, especially those who have to keep them clean in winter. At the same time they encourage people to get out in walk by providing a safe place to do so.

By John Stone, Glenwood MN As we get older in this world of constant change, many of us think about what we hope is around in the future for our children, grandchildren and even great grandchildren. One of the top things on my list is preserving our state and national parks and historic sites. None of us were here in the 1600s or 1700s or 1800s or even early 1900s but we can see what things looked like and how they worked at national parks and historical sites.
