We present participant and practice characteristics, followed by the factors that influence practice choices. We use the term ‘community-based practice’ to refer to primary care provided to a general population in a clinic setting. We use ‘focused practice’ to refer to one or more specific clinical areas that make up a part, or all, of a family physician’s practice outside a traditional community-based practice [21]. We interviewed 63 early-career family physicians between April and October 2019.
