Over the past 20 years, nursing workforce deficiencies have been extensively documented internationally (Doleman et al, 2022). The worldwide shortage of nurses is estimated to be 14 million, primarily the result of the loss of experienced nurses through retirement (International Council of Nurses, 2021). Consequently, the World Health Organization (2020) has stated that all countries needed to increase the supply of graduate nurses by 8%.
