Dear Editor We welcome the systematic review of shared medical appointments by Tang et al(1) in BMJ Open which provides a focused update of Booth’s 2015 systematic review on group clinics(2). Their conclusions are measured and methodology appropriate. However, it may be misleading to use the term Shared Medical Appointments (SMAs) to include all primary care-based group models. A group of international leaders prefer the overarching term Group Consultations(3).
