What was your first job as a journalist?
I worked for the now defunct Women's Professional Soccer league, reporting on league stories and games.

Social media is changing how people report the news. Consumers now want small sound bites of information they can easily access.

Why did you become a journalist?
I love to write. It's really as simple as that. When it comes to creating change I choose the pen.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
Yes. I ran the sports section.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
I won an award from the North American Guild of Beer Writers for a piece called,"The Fermenting Ecosystem: Scratch Brewing in Ava, Illinois".
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Write every day. No matter what or how much. It could be a short blog piece or a longer format article. Writing is a craft. Hone your skill.
When's the best time to pitch you?
Anytime. I check my email day and night.
What's the best pitch you ever got?
An idea for a piece on the Native Land Beer campaign. The freelancer clearly presented the idea and a compelling reason for writing the piece
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
A 50 mph curveball.
What's your favorite drink?
A pint of pilsner
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Outside running, reading a Louise Penny or Michael Connelly novel, or walking to a bakery.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
The Athletic. I'm a huge English Premier League fan.
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
Craft beer is no longer white, male-dominated. As a Queer cis-woman my stories spotlight the BIPOC, Queer, female communities in beer.
