Higher dietary diversity is a recognised proxy for diet quality and has been linked to better micronutrient adequacy among children in sub-Saharan Africa. Meeting minimum dietary diversity and having higher food variety were strongly associated with adequate intakes of the climate-sensitive micronutrients, and this is the first study to derive optimal discriminatory cut-offs (Dietary Diversity Score ≥6.5, Food Variety Score ≥20.5) for micronutrient adequacy in these settings.
