Grace E. Marion came of age in a Pennsylvania town in which the only relevant monument, however absurd, was a puppet-based children’s theme park. She left her town and her position as the Editor-in-Chief of her high school newspaper, the Playwickian, a day before her graduation.

The Mississippi Supreme Court permanently disbarred former Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens on Wednesday. The disbarment comes after the Mississippi Bar Association requested Owens be disbarred earlier this month, following his June 29 guilty plea to federal conspiracy charges and his resignation as Hinds County district attorney. The charges against Owens stemmed from a 2024 FBI bribery sting targeting several high-profile Jackson officials.

Workers for JTRAN, the public transit system in Jackson, Mississippi, went on strike on July 13, 2026, following a breakdown in negotiations with the JTRAN contractor MV Transportation. The Amalgamated Transit Union Local-1208 is calling for higher pay, an end to mandatory overtime and increased sick leave protections. MV Transportation has maintained it wants to increase worker pay, but needs to modify the current route schedule to afford the raises.
