The incidence of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is known to be approximately four to six times higher in men than in women. There are also sex differences in outcomes after endovascular and open AAA repair and in risk of rupture.1 It has long been suggested that when undergoing aneurysm treatment, women are exposed to higher perioperative mortality risks with both elective open surgery and endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR). Several explanations have been proposed for these poorer outcomes.
