“A Daily Jolt into Another World”: Gendered Risk and Cultural Difference in Student Lodgings at the Victoria University of Manchester
ABSTRACT For much of the twentieth century, most university students who left home to study lived not in university residences but in lodgings with local householders. Despite their critical role in absorbing ever-expanding student numbers, lodgings were regarded with ambivalence by the civic universities.

A “life,” in our view, is best defined simply as a contiguous sequence of experiences, and thus the best life is the one consisting of the best possible experiences.
Student Activism in the 1970s
Browsing through the University's collection, the first item that grabbed my attention was a flyer inviting students to a meeting about a rent strike from 1975. It instantly reminded me of my first year at university, when the Covid pandemic and the infamous lockdown of 2020 created an unforgettable and unique experience. Sitting in my small room in Dalton Ellis Hall, I learned about the issues students were facing in connection with the lockdown through social media.
An Exploration of Manchester's Legacy of Student Activism
Student Socialism The rapid development of Socialism during the twentieth century had a significant impact on the political landscape. Left-wing politics have often been embraced by young people and students, upholding the legacy of 'radical' political change and ideology. This Socialist Society Membership Card from 1957 presents a starkly different visual representation of the 'student socialist' in Manchester.

Part I – Civil Twilight Whenever I photograph at a popular landscape photography location, I usually see a mass exodus of photographers as soon as the sun goes down. For many years, I was part of this exodus, as I believed the best light was gone as soon as the sun set. This was before I discovered the magic of twilight.
How to Photograph the Northern Lights
Of all the phenomena you can view in the night sky, the northern lights may be the most spectacular. These lights, which are also known as the aurora borealis, are created by charged particles from the sun interacting with gaseous particles in our atmosphere. They also appear in the southern hemisphere, where they are known as the southern lights or aurora australis. Finding the Northern Lights You can view a forecast for the northern lights at the University of Alaska’s website.
How to Photograph Meteor Showers
Meteor showers can produce some of the most awe-inspiring displays in the night sky. They are created when the Earth passes through dust particles left behind by a comet or asteroid. When the dust particles hit the atmosphere at great speeds, they burn up and briefly produce spectacular fireballs in the sky. You can browse a full list of meteor showers at the American Meteor Society’s website. Here’s what you’ll need to capture the best possible images.

Photography Guide to Arches National Park – Nature TTL
I have been fortunate to be able to travel the world as a nature photographer. The one place I have returned to more than any other is Arches National Park. Part of the appeal for me is the number of photographic possibilities that are tucked into such a small area. The park is one of the smallest in the western U.S., but the opportunities for capturing spectacular images are nearly limitless.

Assessing SDS and SCN
By Grant Collier, MS, Regional Sales Agronomist, Ohio, Stine Seed Company It’s another growing season in the great state of Ohio, and with that came another exceptionally wet spring. Among the many pathogens present, sudden death syndrome (SDS), is once again reminding us why it is in the top two most destructive soybean diseases in the U.S. The moisture, in combination with the cooler periods of weather, created prime periods for fungal infection.
