Why now is the the time
Just a very short note for you today on something that’s been front and center in my mind recently. My dad died on Easter Sunday 8 years ago. He was only 64. It was sudden and unexpected. Unfortunately, given the nature of his death, I didn't get to say things I'd always assumed I'd have time to say. Or do things I'd always assumed I'd have time to do. Like tell him just how much I appreciated what a great dad he had been. Or play Pebble Beach Golf Course with him.

How I'm planning an epic 2023
šHello, my friend. Hard to believe the year is almost over. I donāt know about you, but I am getting extremely fired up for 2023. I have this theory that if I create very intentional, very specific systems to help me achieve my goals, and then I actually follow them religiously every day, that I can achieve things that no reasonable person would deem possible as we sit here today. Am I right? Or am I delusional? I have no idea. But I am going to find out.

The social media paradox
Social media. Whether you like it or not, it's playing a role in your life. Chances are—if you're anything like the "average" person—you spend hours a day staring at some combination of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok and any number of other social apps. If you don't think that's you, take a look at the screen time readings on your iPhone and you may find yourself humbled. If you've somehow managed to avoid this fate, don't celebrate prematurely.
Everything changed, in an instant
It happened in an instant. And then everything was different. The first plane hit at 8:46 am. My phone rang minutes later. I was still in bed. I had the day off. It was my dad. "Where are you?" he asked. "I'm at home," I said. "Look out the window," he said. From the bedroom of my postage-stamp-sized 5th-floor walk-up apartment on West 15th Street, I had a direct view of the smoking North Tower, about two miles south. I turned on cable news trying to understand what had happened.

Don't be a dinosaur
👋 Hello to the 619 subscribers receiving today's email and a special welcome to the 30 new readers who joined us in the last two weeks. You thought you were signing up for a newsletter about habits, motivation, careers, and physical & mental health. Well... this week you're actually getting a newsletter about web3, NFTs, and the metaverse. Is this a bait and switch? I hope not but I'll let you be the judge.
I can't.
I can't do that. What will they think of me? I can't write a book. I can't quit my job. I can't start a business. I can't vote for that candidate. I can't be friends with that person. I can't reinvent my career. I can't move to that city. I can't play that sport. I can't learn how to do that. I can't. I can't. I can't. Why? Because they don't expect me to do that. Because it would be out of character. Because I'm too old. Because I'm too young. Because they might laugh at me. Because of money.
A Year Without Drinking
Share I never planned to go an entire year without drinking. I mean, why would anyone purposefully subject themself to that kind of torture? A year of awkward parties. A year of really noticing the volume of people’s voices. A year of “club sodas with a splash of cranberry.” A year of… well, a year without much fun, right? No, I never planned to go a full year with zero alcohol consumption… …It just kind of happened. Back in January 2018, I was ready for a change.
40 Lessons I’ve Learned at 40
I’ll cut right to the chase. I’m 40! Oh my god. How did this happen? I really don’t know. But it did. The bad news is that I’m over the proverbial hill. The good news is that I’ve learned a few things along the way. And I’ve decided to share them with you.
