Standardising gastric ultrasound planes in patients receiving glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists

Vlaeminck et al. report that there is a 49% incidence of a full stomach in fasted patients receiving semaglutide [1]. By using a propensity-matched design, they isolated the effect of semaglutide from confounders such as obesity and diabetes. We agree strongly that gastric ultrasound is essential to guide individualised airway management for these patients, especially as neither withholding the medication nor extending fasting times empties the stomach reliably.
