1 Introduction IgA nephropathy (IgAN) is the most prevalent primary glomerulonephritis worldwide and a leading cause of end-stage renal disease (ESRD). It is estimated that 25%–50% of patients progress to ESRD within 20–30 years after diagnosis (1, 2). Pathologically, IgAN is characterized by dominant mesangial immunoglobulin A deposition on renal biopsy (3).
