Drugs induced outcomes are modulated in part by the genetic variability in genes encoding enzymes responsible for drug metabolism including cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes [22]. Almost all antimalarial drugs developed against P. falciparum are metabolized by these cytochrome P450 enzymes in the liver [23]. The efficacy of drugs therefore depends on these human factors, the human genetic heritage.
