Benefits and harms In clinical trials, no severe adverse events caused by benfotiamine were observed, except for one case of sudden cardiac death (EudraCT: 2013-001058-85) which was reported by the investigator as a suspected unexpected serious adverse reaction possibly related to the IMP. All other adverse events observed were usually only mild and did not require drug withdrawal.
