Ni-Rich Li[NixMnyCo1–x–y]O2 Single Crystals as Superior Fast Charge Cathodes for Lithium-Ion Batteries
To achieve the Department of Energy’s fast charge (FC) goals for electric vehicles (15 min or 6C), it is necessary to enhance the power density of lithium-ion battery (LIB) electrodes while preserving high energy densities. (1,2) Polycrystalline (PC) Ni-rich Li[NixMnyCo1–x–y]O2 (NMC) cathodes have been effectively utilized in electric vehicles upon increasing the Ni content in conventional layered transition-metal oxide (LiTMO2) cathodes.
