Versatile Brandon Stephens Primed to Make First-Year Impact
OWINGS MILLS, Md. — Brandon Stephen might be the most versatile player on the Ravens roster. He began his collegiate career as a running back at UCLA. He transferred to SMU and transitioned into being a lockdown cornerback. The Ravens drafted Stephens in the third round of this year's NFL draft as a cornerback but he is transitioning into another new position in the NFL — safety. “I feel comfortable at each spot that Coach ‘Wink’ [defensive coordinator Don Martindale] puts me in," Stephens said.
Ravens Place Bateman, Boykin On Short-Term IR
OWINGS MILLS, Md. — The Ravens placed a pair of wide receivers, rookie Rashod Bateman and Miles Boykin, on short-term injured reserve, which means those players will miss the first three games of the season. Bateman, the 27th overall pick in this year's draft, underwent groin surgery in early August. Bateman was impressive throughout the offseason workouts with his route running and ability to catch the ball downfield. He's expected to make a major impact on the offense this season.
Ravens Have Five Players on 2020 Practice Squad That Made Roster
OWINGS MILLS, Md. — The Ravens have five players on the current roster that were elevated from last year's practice squad. Those promotions underscore the Ravens ability to evaluate and develop talent. Quarterback Tyler Huntley, long snapper Nick Moore, linebacker Kristian Welch, running back Ty'Son Williams and safety Geno Stone made the team after spending most of 2020 on the practice squad. “That’s a great stat. I didn’t realize that," Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. "It’s nice to hear that stat.
Gus Edwards Is Starter But Expect Running Back 'By Committee'
OWINGS MILLS, Md. — Ravens running back Gus Edwards will take over the starting role with J.K. Dobbins out for the season with a knee injury. However, expect Ty'Son Williams and Justice Hill to get plenty of work. “We’ve had confidence in Gus, really, since his rookie season," Greg Roman said. "I mean, he was an undrafted player that really impressed us. He made his way onto the roster in the regular season, and he’s done nothing but impress since. He’s our kind of guy.
Ravens Defense Sets Tone for Season
OWINGS MILLS, Md. — The Ravens defense was by far the most dominant group in the NFL during the preseason. Baltimore allowed a league-best 6.7 points per game over three exhibition games. Baltimore gave up just two touchdowns to the Saints over that span. The Ravens also led the NFL in allowing just 57.3 yards rushing per game. The front seven was stout over the three games and opposing running backs had little room to work.
The Ravens 53-Man Roster
OWINGS MILLS, Md. — Here is the Ravens' final 53-man roster for the opening of the 2021 regular season.
Will the Ravens Revisit Todd Gurley at Running Back?
OWINGS MILLS, Md. — The Ravens hosted running back Todd Gurley earlier in the summer but they decided not to sign him. The season-ending knee injury to J.K. Acting and the Black Imagination
In the spring of 1995, I embarked on a series of audiotaped conversations on the art of acting (from a black perspective) with Douglas Turner Ward, co-founder and artistic director of the famed Negro Ensemble Company. They took place in Ward’s corner office when the NEC was located on 46th Street on the fifth floor overlooking Broadway. I always assumed the role of the novice or beginner seeking advice, information or direction. —G.E. GUS EDWARDS: All right, so I want to be an actor.
