The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources is again asking hunters to bring their harvested deer to stations across Utah during this fall’s hunts so division biologists can test the animals for chronic wasting disease. Chronic wasting disease is a transmissible disease that affects the nervous systems of deer, elk and moose. The disease is caused by a misfolded protein, called a prion, that accumulates in the animal’s brain and spinal cord.

Pro-Active Alliance will host a meet and greet for political candidates up for election in races affecting Summit County from 5:30-7 p.m. on Oct. 9 at the Summit County Library Community Room in Kamas, 110 North Main Street. “When it comes time to fill out our ballots in the upcoming election, it’s not uncommon to reach an unfamiliar name on the ballot and freeze.” Pro-Active Alliance said in a press release.

Wallsburg will host a meet and greet for candidates in the upcoming 2026 election at 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 12, at the Wallsburg Community Center, 70 W Main Canyon Road. All candidates are invited to table and speak. Doors open for candidate setup at 4 p.m. Candidates should bring their own table and materials, the town said. Doors open at 5 p.m. for the meet and greet. Candidates will speak from 6-8 p.m., and the meet and greet will continue afterward until 10 p.m.

Summit County prosecutors’ response to recent filings in Kouri Darden Richins’ aggravated murder case indicate the Kamas mother of three, who has been sentenced to life in prison for killing her husband, Eric Richins, wants a judge to postpone a decision on whether to grant her a new trial because of the ongoing criminal investigation into Wasatch County Sheriff Jared Rigby. Darden Richins filed a motion to stay, or pause, proceedings in the case earlier this month, but the documents were sealed.

Outbound Hotels has announced that reservations are open for Outbound Park City, a 180-room, 4.5-acre hotel that was formerly The DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Park City — The Yarrow. The first available date for a room is April 1, 2027. “Park City is an exciting opportunity for us to bring the Outbound experience to one of the country’s most iconic four-season mountain destinations,” said Matthew Mering, president at Waterton and co-founder of Outbound Hotels.

Mountain Trails Foundation, Summit Land Conservancy and Deer Valley Resort welcome the public to attend the grand opening hike of the new Anchor Trees Hiking Trail, located at Deer Valley Resort, at noon on Oct. 6. Bookended by the 9K Trail and Mid Mountain Trail, the hike-only Anchor Trees Hiking Trail winds through a conifer forest on Empire Canyon, an area permanently protected by Summit Land Conservancy through a conservation easement.

Summit County Library’s Sips N’ Stories Book Club celebrates five years this October. The club, which meets via Zoom, pairs a book with a cocktail — and mocktail — recipe every month. Shaylee Newland, former branch manager of the Kimball Junction Branch Library, pitched the idea to Dan Compton, director of Summit County Library. Newland knew that one of the librarians, Chloe Jones Fryer, liked making cocktails and wanted to start a Zoom book club during pandemic shutdowns.

Costumed volunteers for Park City Museum will lead participants in approximately 75-minute tours through the cemetery at 10:45 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. on Saturday. On Saturday, the Glenwood Cemetery Tribute will highlight stories of life and death during Park City’s historical mining days.
