Detailed information on exposure status was collected using a life course approach. Pregnancy-related information, including illness before and during pregnancy, use of micronutrients, blood haemoglobin level, prepregnancy/booking visit BMI and weight gain during pregnancy, was gathered from the pregnancy record. Data on haemoglobin and weight were obtained at booking visit (first trimester), second trimester and before the delivery (third trimester).

There are more than 20 000 children Sri Lanka with serious or life-threatening conditions, who could benefit from palliative care each year. However, there are very few palliative care programs designed to meet the needs of these children and their families.
