What was your first job as a journalist?
Stringer for a local newspaper.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Of course, I reached 70 words per minute on a Selectric in high school. Wish I had one in my collection.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
To put your ethics on display with every sentence and photograph...in my case, it also means sharing the shear pleasure of getting outdoors.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
Camera, tent, Photoshop, Word, boots, sleeping bag, fishing rod, rifle and vivid imagination.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
Forest Service shutting down the Tucson Rod & Gun Club.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Present both sides of a story and let the readers/viewers decide. They are not dumb.
When's the best time to pitch you?
Early in the morning.
