Interview

What was your first job as a journalist?

The first paid gig I had was as a news reporter for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's daily student publication, the Daily Nebraskan.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

It means to be a community watchdog -- holding the powerful accountable and following money -- as well as a recorder of history and teacher.

Why did you become a journalist?

In high school, I was curious, had a long list of interests I had trouble narrowing down and loved writing. Reporting was the perfect fit.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

My high school paper is where I got the reporting bug. I was editor-in-chief, but we were a small staff of 20, so I did a bit of everything.
