Impact of cancer on mortality in critically ill patients with sepsis: a propensity score-matched analysis
Abstract Because cancer may affect sepsis prognosis, yet its association as a comorbidity remains unclear, this study aimed to evaluate the association between pre-existing cancer and mortality in critically ill septic patients. This retrospective cohort study utilized the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care IV version 3.0 database (2008–2022), focusing on adult ICU patients with sepsis and underlying cancer as the exposure variable.

Genetic variation at the IL-18–137C>G is associated with poor sepsis prognosis and enhanced inflammatory responses: a multicenter hospital-based study
Abstract Background: Sepsis is a life-threatening condition caused by dysregulated immune responses, leading to inflammation, tissue damage, and organ failure. This study investigates the role of the IL-18 rs187238 (−137C>G) polymorphism in sepsis susceptibility, progression, and patient prognosis. Methods: A multicenter case-control study was conducted with 784 sepsis patients and 776 healthy controls. The IL-18 rs187238 polymorphism was genotyped using imLDR™ multiplex SNP genotyping method.
