The uninsured rate ranged from 2.5% in architecture and engineering occupations to 29.4% in farming, fishing and forestry occupations (Figure 1). This 26.9 percentage point difference significantly exceeded the 4.6 percentage point gap between full-time and part-time workers ages 19 to 64 in 2024.

This report presents statistics on health insurance coverage in the United States based on information collected in the Current Population Survey Annual Social and Economic Supplement (CPS ASEC). In 2024, most people (92.0 percent or 310 million) had health insurance for some or all of the year. In 2024, private health insurance coverage continued to be more prevalent than public coverage, at 66.1 percent and 35.5 percent, respectively.

The family income-to-poverty ratio provides a measure of a family’s economic resources. This ratio compares family income to a poverty threshold based on the age and number of family members. People are classified as being in poverty if their family income is less than the poverty threshold. Family resources may determine the ability to afford private health insurance, and families below certain thresholds may qualify for public health insurance, such as Medicaid.
