Application of vibrational circular dichroism for determining the absolute configuration of Bubonium graveolens plant major constituents
Abstract The determination of the absolute configuration of chiral molecules is essential because of the 3D arrangement of the atoms directly affects the chemical reactivity, biological activity, and therapeutic effects. Therefore, the absolute configuration of the major chiral components of the essential oil of Bubonium graveolens plant was determined by experimental VCD studies and DFT-calculated VCD spectra. The major components of B.

Plane Tales: The secret lives of your fellow passengers
(CNN) — At any given time, there are about 5,000 planes in the air over the United States, many with hundreds of passengers, all with a story and their reasons for going from A to B. It was this fact, coupled with the boredom that comes from regularly flying for up to 13 hours to and from the United States for work, that led Eva Liparova to take action.

How to experience Hanoi through the eyes of a local
Hanoi (CNN) I'm standing in a dark, large room in Hanoi's Hoa Lo Prison, where Vietnamese prisoners were once held by the French. Lily Nguyen, my tour guide for the morning, explains in great detail the horrific conditions inside the infamous former prison, which held both male and female political prisoners -- including the guillotine room with its gruesome original equipment still in place.
The story behind Hanoi's beloved egg coffee
(CNN) Walk down any street in Vietnam and it quickly becomes apparent this is a country that's crazy about coffee. From people sipping and sitting on low plastic stools on the sidewalk while gossiping with friends, to those who prefer the pricier, hipster-style cafes popping up around Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, the need for caffeine is inescapable. Everyone at Hanoi's humble Cafe Giang however, is after something more than just a caffeine fix.
Ho Chi Minh City: A Vespa tour | National Geographic Traveller (UK)
My knees, which jut out slightly, connect with a rider to my right. In surprise, I look round but he doesn’t seem to have noticed. Then, someone else brushes my left knee with a carrier bag full of shopping. I wince when I realise how close these motorbikes are to mine. We’re literally elbow to elbow in a bottleneck of scooters that’s formed as we all try to leave the East-West Highway in Ho Chi Minh City.

Taxi Fabric, which launched last year and connects young designers with taxi drivers, has so far turned more than 40 vehicles into works of art.
Nomad barber: The world's most adventurous haircuts
(CNN) Trying to recall the most unusual place Miguel Gutierrez set up his stool and offered a haircut during his travels is easy for the man known as the Nomad Barber . "Kurdistan in northern Iraq, we were like 20 minutes from the Iran border and to get there, you have to go through 12 checkpoints," he says. Though footfall was limited in the remote region, he still managed to give haircuts to some locals.

Yellow Backie cycles offer new way to Amsterdam
I'm running behind a slow-moving bike in one of Amsterdam's many cycle lanes in a failed attempt to hop on to the yellow luggage rack at the back and hitch a ride. The young man offering me a lift thinks it's easy to jump on. My hitchhiking attempt is part of the Yellow Backie scheme launched in 2015 in the Dutch capital as a way to encourage positive exchanges between locals and tourists.
