Arkansas First. Arkansas Always.
For the past year, I’ve been meeting people all across Arkansas. Lately, I’m meeting a lot of people who only recently heard my name. That’s fair. I’m not a career politician. When the Talk Business & Politics - Hendrix College poll showed me leading the race for the U.S. Senate, folks noticed. People outside Arkansas see that poll and talk about flipping a Senate seat. I understand why that matters to them. But that’s not why this race matters to me. I live here. I chose to raise my son here.
No One Asked, But… Politics LIVE: Arkansas Democratic U.S. Senate Nominee Hallie Shoffner
Could Arkansas actually be competitive in 2026? I sat down with Arkansas Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Hallie Shoffner for a wide-ranging conversation about her campaign to defeat Sen. Tom Cotton and why she believes voters across party lines are ready for something different.
HALLIE SHOFFNER RELEASES STATEMENT AFTER INDIVIDUAL APPEARING TO HAVE A WEAPON SHOWED UP AT HER FAMILY’S HOME
“This weekend, an individual with what appeared to be a weapon came to our home seeking a member of our campaign team. My husband turned the individual away who then left without further incident. We are grateful that my family is safe and appreciate the swift response of the Little Rock Police Department as they continue investigating what occurred. Public service comes with scrutiny, tough questions, and passionate disagreement. I welcome that.
What to do about climate anxiety
From historic droughts to tornadoes and flash floods, some days watching the weather can feel like a real-life horror film. The rise in climate change-driven natural disasters is taking a toll on our nation’s economy, our infrastructure and our way of life. But it’s also hurting our mental health. The American Psychological Association says that more than two-thirds of us now experience some climate anxiety.

The Real Toll of Climate Change: Five Takeaways From 2022 (Hallie Shoffner Commentary)
Arkansans will remember 2022 as a year of extreme weather. First, we experienced heavy snowfall that pushed our power grid—and our patience—to the brink. Next, it was torrential downpours. From late June on, our state faced a blistering heat wave and unrelenting drought. Our farmers completed harvest with the Mississippi River at historically low levels, and consumers felt the pain at the grocery store checkout. This is an Opinion We'd also like to hear yours.
Climate Change: A Supermarket Struggle?
We’ve gotten accustomed to being able to find the foods we want no matter the season. Does our picky toddler request strawberries in the dead of winter? No problem. Can we make a recipe that calls for butternut squash in early spring? What if we’re craving a taste of pineapple in November? Often, all it takes is an extra trip to the grocery store. Our agricultural sector makes our access to safe, nutritious and delicious foods possible.
How to Save Coffee (and the Environment) in 4 Steps
Has a morning ever started without a jolt of coffee? Not for me. And I’m not alone. More than half of Americans count on a daily cup of joe (or two). Coffee breaks help us recharge. They also allow us to reset and reconnect with family, friends and coworkers. I, for one, don’t want them to disappear. Unfortunately, climate change is expected to reduce coffee farmland by half in the next three decades alone.
Conserving Arkansas agriculture: The Inflation Reduction Act
Our rain dances have finally come to fruition. After months of crippling drought and triple-digit heat, Arkansas agricultural producers have been blessed with a break from the dry conditions. But the relief, while welcome, is only temporary. A more promising development for Arkansas farmers and ranchers is the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act. This legislative package helps address the root cause of the agriculture sector’s challenges: climate change.
Farm Bill: A Chance to Fight Climate Change (Hallie Shoffner Commentary)
Farming isn’t for the faint of heart. Like any business, running a successful agricultural operation can be a daily roller coaster, filled with unexpected financial obstacles, from supply shortages to equipment malfunctions. But our livelihoods — and Arkansas’ economy — count on it to be more ups than downs. Now, extreme weather is throwing Arkansas farmers for extra and unwelcome loops.
This Is How I Will Change My Son's Future (Hallie Shoffner Commentary)
I recently sat on a panel of agriculture professionals and was asked, “What keeps you up at night?” I have a ready answer. This is an Opinion We'd also like to hear yours. Leave a comment below, tweet to us at @ArkBusiness or email us. Making payroll. I’m the CEO of an agricultural research farm and a seed company in rural northeast Arkansas. All business owners worry about finances. What invoices remain unpaid? What is the next big expense? My son. I’m also a mother of a 17-month-old boy.
Hope Rises Wellness and Recovery House
And so, the Hope Rises Wellness and Recovery House idea was formed. Our correctional system offers very little in terms of rehabilitation. For this reason, women need more than “halfway” in terms of housing and treatment when returning to the community. The first six months to one year following the release from incarceration is a critical time for women.
