Dhaka, June 10 -- The BNP government is preparing to present one of Bangladesh's most ambitious budgets in recent years, promising greater investment in education, healthcare, social protection and infrastructure at a time when the economy is still struggling to regain momentum. For economist Mustafizur Rahman, however, the question is not simply how much the government plans to spend.

Dhaka, June 9 -- Overcoming Bangladesh's current macroeconomic challenges relies largely on the political will of those in power, economist Masrur Reaz says. According to him, progress will only be possible if there is a clear political commitment to prevent any particular group from holding the economy hostage. He argues that a handful of isolated reforms will not be enough to revive the economy.
