1 Introduction Periodontitis is the inflammation of the supporting soft and hard tissue around the dentition. Although an acute type of this inflammation can also be seen, most of the time it manifests as a chronic disease. Periodontitis is characterized by a progressive destruction of the periodontium (Savage et al. 2009). The development and progression of periodontitis are driven by a complex interplay of bacterial biofilm (plaque) and the host's immune response.

This paper shows that stress and its associated anxiety and depression have the potential to be the only possible cause for the development of oral lichen planus.
