Sparse X-ray spectro-tomography for high-sensitivity three-dimensional chemical imaging at the nanoscale
Abstract Achieving three-dimensional (3D) chemical imaging with scanning x-ray microscopy is often hindered by the prohibitively long acquisition time. In this work, we develop a method that drastically reduces the data requirement by two orders of magnitude, thereby significantly decreasing acquisition time and radiation dose.
Learning neural representations for X-ray ptychography reconstruction with unknown probes
Abstract X-ray ptychography provides exceptional nanoscale resolution and is widely applied in materials science, biology, and nanotechnology. However, its full potential is constrained by the critical challenge of accurately reconstructing images when the illuminating probe is unknown. Conventional iterative methods and deep learning approaches are often suboptimal, particularly under the low-signal conditions inherent to low-dose and high-speed experiments.
Gas-mediated defect engineering in earth-abundant Mn-rich layered oxides for non-aqueous sodium-based batteries - Nature Nanotechnology
Abstract Gases are often by-products of battery materials during cell formation and degradation, affecting the cycle life and safety of rechargeable batteries. However, understanding gas-mediated (electro)-chemical reactions and nanoscale structural transformations during the synthesis of battery electrode materials remains challenging because of the lack of suitable characterization routes and the complexity of the interplay between thermodynamics and kinetics.

Octo-diamond crystal of nanoscale tetrahedra with interchanging chiral motifs - Nature Materials
Abstract Despite their simplicity, tetrahedra can assemble into diverse high- and low-density structures. Here we report a low-density ‘octo-diamond’ structure formed by nanoscale solid tetrahedra with a 64-tetrahedron unit cell containing 8 cubic-diamond subcells. The formed crystal is achiral, but is composed of chiral bilayers with alternating handedness.
Spontaneous Formation of Single-Crystalline Spherulites in a Chiral 2D Hybrid Perovskite
Introduction Click to copy section linkSection link copied! Metal halide perovskites (MHPs), especially 2D layered MHPs, have emerged as an exciting class of semiconductors as they offer the opportunity to tune the electronic and optical properties through the selection of various organic and inorganic sublattice building blocks.
Genome-wide association analysis reveals potential genetic correlation and causality between circulating inflammatory proteins and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis | Aging
Background: Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), a fatal neurodegenerative disease, continues to elude complete comprehension of its pathological underpinnings. Recent focus on inflammation in ALS pathogenesis prompts this investigation into the genetic correlation and potential causal relationships between circulating inflammatory proteins and ALS.
A diagnostic model based on bioinformatics and machine learning to differentiate bipolar disorder from schizophrenia and major depressive disorder - Schizophrenia
Abstract Bipolar disorder (BD) showed the highest suicide rate of all psychiatric disorders, and its underlying causative genes and effective treatments remain unclear. During diagnosis, BD is often confused with schizophrenia (SC) and major depressive disorder (MDD), due to which patients may receive inadequate or inappropriate treatment, which is detrimental to their prognosis.
Deep learning enables nanoscale X-ray 3D imaging with limited data - Light: Science & Applications
Abstract Deep neural network can greatly improve tomography reconstruction with limited data. A recent effort of combining ptycho-tomography model with the 3D U-net demonstrated a significant reduction in both the number of projections and computation time, and showed its potential for integrated circuit imaging that requires high-resolution and fast measurement speed.
