Jane English Silences Arkansas Students
Senate Education chair attempts to muzzle students who oppose LEARNS. The abuse of power continues. The last three weeks have been full of talk about the LEARNS Act, and the main theme from the legislature is silence anyone who doesn’t agree with the policy and threaten legislative members who oppose it. Today that motif was apparent yet again in the Arkansas Senate Education Committee, where members voted to concur the amendments made in the House.

Is Alan Clark sorry? Doesn't seem like it.
Last week Senator Alan Clark received penalties from the Senate body after attempting to steal taxpayer dollars. Clark feigned a sincere apology before his colleagues only to turn around and make a joke of the Senate’s decision to adopt ethics committee recommendations for him and Sen Mark Johnson. What could possibly be so funny?
Bless Rapert's Heart
Last week all eyes were on Sen. Jason Rapert. In a blow to his campaign for Lt. Governor, an angry-turned-downtrodden Rapert was left with little political traction in the Governor’s special tax session. Can you blame him for being upset? First Leslie Rutledge crushed Rapert’s dreams of being the next Lt. Governor. Then Republicans ignored his police tax credit legislation. Lastly, colleagues denied Rapert’s attempt to extend session so he could run a Texas-style heartbeat bill.
Urgent: Extremist Group Targets Bentonville School Board
UPDATE 10/26/2020: Following the publication of this article, Americans for Medical Freedom have removed their Facebook endorsement of Mike Swanson for Bentonville School Board Zone 7. Local elections have always mattered. But this summer Arkansans saw how critical school board elections are. Back in August, #Arleg reconvened for a special session to address Act 1002; the law prohibited state entities from mandating masks, which included public schools.
Cowardly Irvin: - On AR Watch
She Hasn’t Any Courage at All Senator Irvin made cowardly, appalling statements to a worried mother Senator Irvin would rather run away from her duty than face Arkansans who need her leadership What does Senator Irvin care about? Optics, saving face and scoring political points What doesn’t Senator Irvin care about?
Kids: Do They Know How to Wear a Mask?
During the House Public Health Committee meeting on August 4th, 2021, Rep. Mary Bentley said that kids don’t know how to wear masks. We asked Twitter to send us pictures of their little ones wearing masks, and it’s safe to say that our kids are a lot smarter than Bentley thinks. Following a public health emergency declaration and a lawsuit, the Arkansas Legislature reconvened this week to address federal unemployment dollars and protecting kids in schools from COVID19.
Garner's Gamble: Is Anyone Safe?
Sen. Trent Garner is one of the most dangerous lawmakers in our state, and now he’s gambling with our lives. We elect our leaders in good faith, expecting them to use their place of power for the greater good. But recently our lawmakers have fallen short of this expectation. Some are even gambling with Arkansas lives. During the past legislative session, Sen. Trent Garner filed a bill that would end mask mandates in our state (now Act 1002). This law is now Arkansas’ most urgent problem.
Power Check: Balance Vs. Control
After a controversial legislative session, a federal judge granted an injunction on HB1570, a new law that would ban healthcare for Trans youth in our state. When it comes to good government, balance of power is crucial. An example: if a lawmaker uses their power to hurt a specific group, the judicial branch can correct when necessary. But should our courts have to do this all the time? Our newest laws have kept Arkansas courts busy.
Arkansas Legislature Hates Trans Kids and Loves Spending Money
Healthcare providers and Trans advocates gather to protest HB 1570 Elected leaders have a very important job: passing laws that better the lives of those they represent. But the Arkansas Legislature abused their power in the 2021 General Session by assaulting the Trans community, leaving many Arkansas Trans youth tired, panicked, and in grief.
