The mayor of the West of England has admitted the initial results of a £5m-per-year scheme designed to help young people into work are "not good enough" after it reached only 300 people in its first year. The Youth Guarantee trailblazer programme failed to meet its target of supporting 500 young people over 12 months. Of the 300 participants, 126 progressed into a job, study or training. About 22,000 young people across the region are thought to be not in employment, education or training (Neet).
