Parental Responses to Bullying: Emotional and Coping Experiences of Parents of Adolescents with Developmental Disabilities
ABSTRACT This study used a triangulation approach to examine the perspectives and experiences of 146 parents (87% mothers; 104 from the US, 42 from the UK) whose children with developmental disabilities had been bullied. Parents completed an online survey with open-ended questions and self-report measures. The study explored: 1) how bullying affected parents’ emotional well-being, and 2) what helped them cope with anger and resentment related to their child’s victimization.
