The IBF has officially ordered their No. 2-ranked lightweight to take on its No. 1-ranked contender, Artur Subkhankulov, for the vacant title. The two sides have until October 7 to come to an agreement. If not, a purse bid will be called. Raymond Muratalla, its former champion, recently vacated the IBF crown to move up in weight. Cruz is getting a quick chance to redeem himself. The Ring’s No. 5-ranked lightweight lost a majority decision to Muratalla on January 24.

Knyba unhappy with referee, judges in win over Ruiz

In the seventh round, Knyba badly hurt and dropped Andy Ruiz, who survived to the end of the round after referee David Franciosi gave him an extended amount of time to recover. Ultimately, the 6-foot-8 heavyweight from Poland had to settle for a unanimous decision victory over Ruiz at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, in the third rendition of “The Fight” on DAZN and TNT. “I believe that if the opportunity came, I can hurt him, which I did,” Knyba said in the post-fight press conference.
