CAPEval: A Decoupled Caption Evaluation across Understanding and Generation
Published on Aug 3 · Submitted by Galaxy on Aug 5 Abstract Captions serve as a primary supervision signal for both multimodal understanding and text-to-image generation. However, previous evaluations treat the caption quality as a single scalar objective, which conflates two distinct properties: (1) how much visual information a caption covers and (2) how reliably the image supports its stated claims.

Influences of suspending agents on the rheological and sedimentation characteristics of cemented paste backfill
Abstract Blockage during the pipeline transport of cemented paste backfill (CPB) causes significant economic losses to mining operations. Suspending agent (SA) addition has been proposed as an easily implementable and low-cost method to mitigate the risk of pipeline blockage caused by sedimentation during the transportation of CPB. However, the effects of SAs on the rheological and sedimentation properties of CPB are not yet fully understood.

1. Introduction Carbonate rock formations are the most important type of oil and gas reservoir. It is estimated that approximately 60% of the world’s oil reserves are located in carbonate reservoirs [1]. According to a report by Schlumberger (2019) [2] of conventional oil reserves in the Middle East are located in carbonate reservoirs.
Inverse Problem of Permeability Field under Multi-Well Conditions Using TgCNN-Based Surrogate Model
1. Introduction In the field of oil and gas field development, studying the inverse problem regarding the permeability field of underground reservoirs is a challenging task [1,2,3]. The distribution of permeability is an important property that describes the permeability of reservoir rocks, and its distribution may vary due to factors such as geological structure, rock type, and porosity.
Ex Situ Production and Storage of Exciton-Polariton Vortices in Higher-Order Topological Corner Modes
We propose a scheme for producing and manipulating quantized exciton-polariton vortices in the higher-order topological corner modes of a two-dimensional array of micropillars. By nonresonantly exciting p-orbital condensates with different orientations at two input corners, polariton vortices carrying the required topological charges can be controllably created at output corners away from the pumping spots.
Novel Workstation Module and Method for Automatic Blanking of Surgical Forceps

Blanking is characterized by high efficiency, accuracy, and repeatability, and has been widely used in the automotive, electronics, home appliances, and other industries [4,5]. As an essential surgical instrument, surgical forceps are widely used in clinical practice and are in great demand.
Stacking order dependence of interlayer excitons in ${\mathrm{MoSe}}_{2}/{\mathrm{WSe}}_{2}$ heterobilayers
Two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenide heterostructures provide a unique opportunity for quantum engineering of electronic and excitonic states at the nanoscale. Critical optical properties of interlayer excitons, including transition energy, optical selectivity, and quantum yield, are strongly correlated to the stacking orders. However, these optical properties could vary from sample to sample, setting an obstacle to extracting the intrinsic stacking order dependence experimentally.

70 years on: The Roger Bannister Mile – The Oxford Student
Exactly 70 years ago today, with a time of 3:59.4, Sir Roger Bannister became the first man in documented history to run a mile (1600m) in under four minutes. Now, while the mile record has long been taken to 3:43:13 by Hicham El Guerrouj, the Bannister Mile still remains a shining light in the discipline, forever inspiring aspirational runners.
Recap: A blue Easter – The Oxford Student
Oxford terms are intense, with eight weeks of term, tutorials, lectures, and extra-curricular events (not to mention collections and other stress-inducers). The promise of a few weeks of break in the vacations is often what motivates students through their work. Yet, of course, the University never ceases to remind us that the time between terms are vacations, not holidays, for we are to vacate our rooms and work is to be continued.

Just Stop Oil: Activism or publicity? – The Oxford Student
Given that it’s now been almost two weeks since the Radcliffe Camera (Rad Cam) was “redecorated” with some bright orange paint, I feel that we’ve all somewhat calmed down from the Just Stop Oil (JSO) display, and the subsequent aftershocks. Perhaps the stars aligned or the JSO protestors were avid readers of The Oxford Student, but most of the editorial team were sitting in one room in the Student Union laying in that week’s newspaper when we found out that the Rad Cam had been sprayed.
