1 INTRODUCTION Sphingolipids are the second most abundant membrane lipids in mammals [1]. They are a class of complex lipids with significant biological functions, widely present in the cell membranes of eukaryotic organisms, and are particularly enriched in the myelin sheath and neuronal membranes of the central nervous system (CNS) [1]. Discovered and extracted in the late 19th century, sphingolipids were named after the “Sphinx” in Greek mythology due to their enigmatic properties.
