1. Introduction Drought remains a serious threat to the livelihoods of millions worldwide. Combating drought is essential for achieving sustainable development goals, as it supports the preservation of ecosystem services and enhances the quality of life for millions in regions vulnerable to drought (E/CN.17/2009/19) [].

1. Introduction Drought is a phenomenon that can have severe impacts on various aspects of human life [1]. Various drought indices have been proposed and applied (e.g., SPI, RDI, SPEI, SDI) to capture the severity and duration of drought events (e.g., [2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11]) for various timescales and in different regions around the globe. Consequently, indices are a vital tool and play a crucial role in water resources management and agricultural and disaster preparedness and management.
