As Pride Month nears its close, know that the queer community will endure, celebrate and battle on Original
Kansa Reflector opinion editor Clay Wirestone has already touched on what Pride Month means, and why it is important. I would like to echo that sentiment, despite it being late in the month. Pride is a fundamental and intrinsic part of the queer identity, and it must be celebrated, not only by members of the queer community but by those who ally themselves with us. Pride events are valuable, even the lighthearted and (if I may borrow from Wirestone) gaudy and theatrical ones.

Eight-four representatives voted for the law in the Kansas House. Twenty-eight senators voted for the law in the Kansas Senate. These 112 individuals voted to codify the so-called “women’s bill of rights” in the Kansas Legislature. Said another way, these 112 individuals do not see transgender people as real people. These are the 112 that hopefully will be seen as some of the most radical extremists to ever step foot into the Capitol building.
