× HBO Max is in the middle of one of its most stacked months of the year, which makes this a very good weekend to open the app. The August 1 library refresh dropped a stack of heavy hitters, along with some great picks that landed at the end of July. There are plenty of options on the platform now, right down to Bob Odenkirk’s neo-Western Normal, which just landed on August 14.

× David Robert Mitchell’s sci-fi thriller, The End of Oak Street, is now in theaters. Anne Hathaway plays Denise Platt, a mother quietly rethinking her marriage, with Ewan McGregor as her husband Greg, and Maisy Stella and Christian Convery as their kids. Then their entire 1982 neighborhood is dropped into the age of dinosaurs. The film’s music comes from Michael Giacchino, the Oscar-winning composer behind Up, Ratatouille, and The Incredibles.

× X-Men ’97 Season 2 has wrapped on Disney+, and it left the mutant board completely rearranged. Magneto is dead at the hands of Apocalypse, and the villain is eventually sealed inside a gem. Rogue walked out of a Celestial shrine carrying power no X-Man has ever held, but Nightcrawler ends up taking her sacrifice. Season 3 arrives in 2027 with Mystique, the Brotherhood of Mutants, and a Sentinel program back online, so the power ceiling is only going to climb again.
