By Hatab Nyang Boundary teams from The Gambia and Senegal have found four colonial-era markers in Sandu District as work continues to identify and clarify parts of the border between the two countries. The National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC) said the search was carried out in the area around Sare Yerore in The Gambia and Sare Diam Golore in Senegal. Residents from both communities accompanied the technical teams and helped them look for the markers.

By Hatab Nyang Updates from the National Centre for Arts and Culture (NCAC), the Joint Technical Teams of the Boundary Commissions of The Gambia and Senegal, have reached the Fourth Priority Area of their demarcation exercise in Sandu, in the Upper River Region. Here, the long-standing border ambiguity between The Gambia and Senegal has been resolved yet again in another key stretch after more colonial boundary pillars were successfully rediscovered in Sandu District.

By Hatab Nyang A colonial boundary pillar believed to be more than 120 years old has been found intact in Kanjabina village in Foni Berefet District, West Coast Region, providing a rare physical link to the demarcation of the Gambia-Senegal border during the colonial period. The pillar is one of the original markers erected between 1904 and 1905 by the Anglo-French Boundary Commission and remains standing in the bush with its base, middle section and cap intact.
