Estimating small area population from health intervention campaign surveys and partially observed settlement data - Nature Communications
Abstract Effective governance requires timely and reliable small area population counts. Geospatial modelling approaches which utilise bespoke microcensus surveys and satellite-derived settlement maps and other spatial datasets have been developed to fill population data gaps in countries where censuses are outdated and incomplete.
Letter: River Road connections will be costly
To the Editor: The City of Iowa Falls is proceeding with the bid phase of the River Road projects, which include water and sewer utilities (no natural gas, as far as we know) and road improvement to provide infrastructure to a new well at Weaver’s Cove (which has yet to demonstrate minimum production). The bid specs are available Jan. 25 and estimates are expected to be returned by Jan. 31, an incredible six-day turnaround time and first council meeting with the newest member, Micah Cutler.
Letter: The cost of answers
To the Editor: Firstly, I would like to thank Mayor Newgaard for his many years of service and dedication to our community. (“Let’s talk about projects,” June 30, 2021 Times Citizen) Electing officials to represent our values is indeed the American way. The River Road Coalition (23 RR residents, 104 members) values our Scenic City and will continue asking questions. Evidently, the answers cost $7,026.25, which was invoiced by the City for our public information request.
Guest Column: No refund for Weaver’s Cove well
Heather Chamberlain My living room looks like a disaster zone as foam boards plastered with colorful sticky notes splay across the floor. It looks like a scene from a murder mystery, connecting the dots of a real whodunit using public records. Just like in any good mystery, there is a plot twist in the tale of River Road projects. Spoiler alert: the Weaver’s Cove well has been masquerading as a good well since the curtain lifted.
Guest Column: Keep Iowa Falls’ River Road scenic
Heather Chamberlain It is a lazy Sunday morning and I am drinking coffee on the front porch watching the Iowa flow lazily along River Road. Walkers wave as they pass and classic cars cruise slowly to take in the scenery. I’ve come to love this quiet, unique neighborhood. When the city turned its eyes to our road, I hoped it was to preserve the peaceful beauty the whole community enjoys.
