Many of the most egregious examples of commercial conflicts of interest and undue influence in politics come from ad hoc or unconventional sources. It was litigation against major tobacco companies such as Philip Morris International (PMI) and R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company that led to the trove of documents released during discovery.
