1 Introduction Gerontological nurses support older people to live with dignity, sustain participation and maintain a sense of purpose in later life. This work benefits from concepts that reflect how meaning is made in specific social settings (Reed 2008). In Korea, changes in family structure, work and residence patterns are reshaping how older people experience identity, social participation and meaning in later life (World Health Organization [WHO] 2024; Statistics Korea 2023; Han et al. 2023).
