1 INTRODUCTION Alcohol use can cause harm not only to the drinker but also to others including children [1]. In this study, we focus on the alcohol-attributable burden of child maltreatment among Māori, the Indigenous population of Aotearoa New Zealand.

INTRODUCTION Much of the quantification of alcohol-attributable harm globally relates to the impact of alcohol upon the drinker themselves. The contribution of alcohol's harm to people other than the drinker has been largely missing from global comparative risk assessments, such as the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) studies and the global status reports on alcohol and health [1].
