VEXAS (vacuoles, E1 enzyme, X-linked, autoinflammatory, somatic) syndrome, discovered in 2020, is an adult-onset autoinflammatory condition caused by somatic mutations in the UBA1 gene, resulting in systemic inflammation and hematologic abnormalities [1]. It frequently overlaps with rheumatologic and hematologic diseases such as relapsing polychondritis and myelodysplastic syndrome [2]. The relationship between VEXAS syndrome and concomitant substance use disorders (SUDs) remains unknown.
