Breast cancer patients are calling for "no stone to be left unturned" as investigations continue into failings in treatments and care at County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust. A review of past cases was launched after a catalogue of issues was revealed, ranging from delayed diagnoses to unnecessary surgery and outdated clinical practices. So far, the review has identified that more than 50 patients came to moderate or severe harm.

Coroner rules ambulance delay 'possibly' contributed to former Redcar steelworker's death

The family of a man from Redcar have said they are grateful after a coroner ruled that delays to the arrival of an ambulance crew possibly contributed to his death. The coroner concluded that former steelworker Peter Coates would not have died when he did, had it not been for an unexpected power cut which stopped the home oxygen supply he relied on. Peter Coates was 62 when he died seven years ago and had faced a number of health issues in the later stages of life.

A man from Wearside says he has been left in constant pain after operations by a surgeon he once regarded as being "like a god". David Render had a series of procedures to his hands and lower arms, performed by consultant orthopaedic surgeon Leslie Irwin. They were carried out for the NHS at a privately run hospital in Washington run by Spire Healthcare. Spire has since apologised to Mr Render and removed Mr Irwin’s right to practice at all its sites.
