The critical appraisal undertaken on the reviews found that the majority (12) of the studies were rated as ‘critically low’.

The fall of modern languages risks leaving our pupils incapable of flourishing as global citizens, warns one headteacher A skill deficit that costs the UK economy an estimated 3.5 per cent of GDP. A knowledge vacuum that 74 per cent of business leaders identify as a major barrier to career success for graduates in today’s world of work.
'Outdoor education prepares pupils for GCSEs'
"Why should a dip in a cold lake help prepare our students for GCSEs?" This question was put to me, in emphatic terms, by Year 9 students recently as we toiled uphill, soaked to the skin, at the end of the "jog and dip" challenge at Outward Bound Centre in Ullswater. I was too wet and out of breath myself at the time to answer the question properly, but here are my reflections on why an immersive (no pun intended) experience of adventure learning makes an ideal induction to the GCSE years.
'Schools need to keep up with endless HE reform'
Seismic changes are buffeting the higher education sector and changing the nature of the guidance that sixth-formers need to negotiate the process successfully. Three key developments have altered the landscape in recent years – the impact on the UK of the globalisation of HE, the introduction of university tuition fees in 1998 and A-level reform. The globalisation of HE has opened up new vistas for British students.
'Shorthand reading and thinking dominates our culture'
For our foremothers, learning shorthand as part of a repertoire of secretarial skills was considered a vital attribute in preparing them for a world of work. Women with such skills had an advantage in many realms of the employment market. The arrival of digital communications has rendered obsolete the conventional skills of shorthand writing. We can now reproduce and store information endlessly and effortlessly.

10 CV clichés to avoid
Are you a solution-focussed, dynamic problem solver with excellent team-working skills and an inspirational leadership style? Oh dear. That’s another rejection you can look forward to. If there’s one thing guaranteed to set employers on edge it’s the CV cliché. Well, I say CV but it applies equally well to cover letters, applications and interviews. Avoid clichéd phrasing at ALL costs. At best it sounds like meaningless waffle and at worst, it comes dangerously close to megalomania.
